Samsung “PDAPC”

Samsung always liked UMPC-PDA business, and they are continuing their attitude. Akihabara News posted a new portable PC from Samsung : It’s like the intersection point of UMPC and PDA.

Here’s the SPH-P9000 Deluxe MITs, a PC shaped like a PDA, with Windows XP, a 30GB hard disk, 256MB of RAM, a 5” display, a 1GHz CPU, WiMAX, CDMA EV-DO, and a 1.3Mpix camera. It measures 143×94x29mm and weights 580g.

It looks like everyone in Eastern Asia is working on a new UMPC, and i still couldn’t find finance. There must be something wrong with me :D. (Can it be because i’m not Korean?)

Q1b vs R2H pictures

Ignar, Origami Project user, has posted a picture gallery of the Q1b and R2H, one on top of each other.

Compared to R2H, Q1 is definitely thinner, lighter and easier to hold.

Designer UMPCs

PBJ commissioned Designer Cripsin Jonesto design a UMPC.

This UMPC is designed to be a non-business machine - whereas once we lived in a world where computers were solely for business, today our personal lives are often experienced through the computer. However we are still stuck with the business machine paradigm. For example looking at family photographs on a conventional laptop is a slightly sterile experience - certainly compared with looking at a traditional bound album. This design brings the more emotive qualities of the traditional photo album to the world of technology.

Task Switcher

OrigamiCar announced a nice application for UMPCs (it will be useful for Tablets too i believe) : Taskswitcher.

What is TaskSwitcher?

TaskSwitcher is a small application specifically written for UMPC touchscreen computers that gives you instant access to various useful functions that are otherwise a little more tricky on a computer without a keyboard.

When it is running, a small gray panel appears at the top center of the screen on your UMPC. Tapping this panel allows you to cycle through your open programs.
