First two are from Gottabemobile, eo i7210 realtime demo and TabletKiosk eo i7210 InkShow. They seem to be unavailable now, but they are worth watching.

The last one is a new device’s, S-XGen’s video.

The S-XGen is the newest contender in the rapidly expanding Ultra Mobile Personal Computer (UMPC) class of minicomputers. The S-XGen has a robust shock-proof 20GB hard drive, a 6.5″ X 3.8″ X 1.125″ form factor, including a TFT Transflective Touch Screen viewable in sunlight, 802.11b/g and Bluetooth connectivity, SD MMC and Compact Flash sockets, 2 USB 2.0 ports, and a near full-sized Qwerty folding keyboard, stereo speakers and inputs/outputs, docking socket and tri-band cell phone communications capability. GPS capability will be available as an add-on.

Vega Review

Steve from Carrypad made a really good review of Raon Digital Vega. I was expecting a few benchmarks, especially time for opening MS Office etc. and comparison photos with UX,eo and/or Q1. (Word takes a week to load on my Athlon 64 :D)

The Vega is an Ultra Mobile PC in a class on its it’s own right now. Although there are a few devices in the same size class (Sony UX, DualCor, Nokia 770) nothing can match the price/functionality ratio of the Vega. As I said before, this isn’t a device that can handle all the office applications that you will throw at it. Its not a 3D gaming PC either. Despite the form factor being perfect, its not powerful enough to handle modern games.

Under normal use and with the screen brightness turned down slightly, this is a 5 hour device.

A quick note to say that I’ve just run the Vega playing audio with the screen off for 7 hours and 10 minutes.

Asus R2H Manual Available

Asus R2H Manual is now available on Asus support pages. It also revealed it’s pen doesn’t include any electrical components, but R2H product page says pen has eraser end and mouse control buttons. One info must be wrong, unless they found a way to make these functions without electrical components.

Increase productivity and efficiency with handwritten input capability! Together with ASUS InfoPen software, users can record and edit images or documents as easy as on a piece of paper with color and highlighter options. The DigiPen stylus also has an eraser end and mouse control buttons so that users can now navigate a wide range of applications with single-handed ease!

Vega in the Car

Carrypad made a four part series : Vega in the Car. There are both some good pictures and videos of Vega mounted in the car.

Asus R2H will be available in October, for $999. And Kevin asks “who is buying?”

According to propstm.net, Asus R2H will be available in USA in October, with the price tag of $999. It will include GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, Webcam, 768 MB RAM , 60 GB HDD. I always thought new products appear first in USA,Korea or Japan, but it is already available in Holland.

And Kevin asks “The real question is: who’s buying?”. I guess he thinks “People who like UMPCs have already bought Q1 or eo etc. There aren’t anyone left to sell R2H”. I used to think like that too. But i found out that it doesn’t work like that. I think Sony U (not UX) series are really great. People who want to have little PCs had already bought Sony U series and OQO, why would anyone buy these new UMPCs, or even UX series? But they are selling, right? Same thing, i believe.

P1610 Review

Hugo Ortega made a good video (of course except the beginning :D) of Fujitsu P1610 / Loox P70. It isn’t a UMPC exactly, but it’s close enough to be one. I especially liked the video and the product for using a new touchscreen technology - hands don’t interrupt writing.

Vega Photos, First Impressions and Battery Life

Steve from Carrypad posted a gallery of Vega’s pictures , battery life figures and his first impressions.

The other surprising thing is the battery life. This thing just goes on forever. I plugged in the battery at about 5pm and as I write this at 12pm, there is still 20% battery left. I estimate that I’ve been actively using it for well over 3 hours and the rest of the time the device was on but the screen was off. That’s exceptional.

4.25hrs under load.
