Ultranauts finished predicting (And about the last one)

Ultranauts has finished “10 UMPC Predictions”. I’ve read all of them and if you read my comments until now, you can guess what i can say about them. (if you haven’t, scroll down!)

As you know, i think a bit different than other editors. (what can i say, i’m unfortunately a genius! :D )

Their last prediction is :

Prediction #10: In one mighty blow, the UMPC will displace the high-end PDA, the PMP and everyone’s favorite underdog, the TabletPC.

You may have read the same idea almost everywhere. Lots of editors think like this.Especially UMPCs’ wiping out high-end PDAs. But i don’t think so. Yes, you can do much more with UMPCs rather than PDAs. But firstly PDAs are much smaller than UMPCs. They have shorter boot times, longer battery life, they are pocketable. Yes, i can have these features with low-end PDAs but you have the same features with high-end PDAs and they are sold since the PDAs created. They have the same OS, same QVGA screen (older times) but high-end models are always sold.

Assume that prediction turns out to be true (and i’ll bang my head to the walls :D ) but what can i buy if i don’t like those hard to carry, long boot timed, short battery lifed UMPCs and i don’t want to buy a PDA with QVGA screen,no-wifi,slow cpu and little RAM? What if i want good, fast PDA with VGA,camera,Wifi? And don’t forget that high-end PDAs are sold for 400-500$ not for 1000$. Same thing is vaild to PMPs. They are smaller, cheaper and have longer battery life.

And UMPCs’ wiping out Tablet PCs? They are about the same size, I’d still prefer a TC1100 to a UMPC. And Tablet PCs with 12.1″ , 14″ and even 15″ screen would die because of UMPCs? Tablet PC Community wants higher resolution and bigger screen Tablet PCs and they will be pushed to small and lower-resolution UMPCs? I don’t think so.

I’m a UMPC writer and i love UMPCs, but i can’t kill all these devices in favor of UMPC.
