Which Extra Small PC Fits You? from Chosun.com.
‘Origami’ ultra-mobile PCs arriving from Digit.
For UMPCs to be a success, they must be more than a slimmed-down notebook or large PDA. “If it is going to end up that way, i don’t think it will succeed. it has to be something beyond just an ‘in-between,’” Perlmutter said.
The UMPC as a marker for the rise of rich media from Spidersplat
As a highly demanded web tool, the UMPC slides rich media right in the palm of our hands.

Personal Computer World has reviewed Samsung Q1 - it’s first review. The review is not very detailed, not much more than early previews of eo, but they have some nice info about Q1 and will reveal benchmarks later. (and hopefully more details)

They didn’t like it’s perfomance , but it seems to have better battery life than eo. (and it’s twins)
Also PC Advisor previewed Q1 and they have nice thoughts about it.

Apex Software is the first distributor of TabletKiosk’s eo V7110 UMPC.
“Because they are experts in the mobile market, Apex Software is an ideal distribution partner to market our new device,” said Martin Smekal, president of TabletKiosk(TM). We are pleased to welcome Apex Software as a new TabletKiosk(TM) distributor.”

(50$ less than Tabletkiosk’s price) You can also have a bundle including Apex’s real estate software (you were curious about what they do, didn’t you) and a car charger for 250$. Newly ordered devices will be delivered in the second week of May. (my birthday is in that week too!) Other colors and configurations will be shipped in early June.

Plusd.itmedia.co.jp has posted some nice photos and benchmarks of Smart Caddie. (same as eo,easybook, amtek t700)

And these are my TC1100’s benchmarks. (Penitum M 1.1 GHz, 512 MB DDR RAM)

Well, you didn’t expect high marks from Smart Caddie, did you?
And they ran a video from Gya-O and web browsing with This is the first site I have seen talk about battery life as well. According to their tests they ran a video from Gya-O 50% screen brightness and the battery lasted less than 2 hours. With lower than normal brightness, they could get a little more than 2 hours.
They experienced good speed with email and Doc writing , but 3D applications were slow.

Tabletkiosk has posted an open letter to all eo preorderers to inform that the shipments delay due to redesign of back panel.
As the end of April rapidly approaches, we find ourselves in the position of having to balance our commitment to quality with the expectation of a timely product delivery. After the process of quality control was completed on the first eoâ„¢ production units, it was determined that there was an issue in the tooling of the back panel that affected the operation of the system fan. Because of this problem, the back panel had to undergo a slight redesign and thus the initial shipment is going to be only a fraction of what we had anticipated.
Additionally, we expect the supply of the eoâ„¢ to be extremely tight for the next 60 to 90 days as the production supply catches up to demand.

You may have already seen this cartoon, but i can’t pass this one out. I really enjoyed this cartoon from Richard Cobbett. According to his site, the cartoon was made before Origami became UMPC.

Anandtech compared Dragon NaturallySpeaking and Microsoft Office Word Speech Recognition Tool. I was waiting for a comparision like this for a long long time. Speech recognition is a nice tool for UMPCs and Tablets. It may be not the way as everybody hope now, but future will love it.

I wrote about Ultranauts’ 10th prediction 10 days ago and now Warner Crocker , Craig Pringle and James Kendrick prove my point.
From Warner’s :
Well, a few big dogs are barking back at that one. Both James Kendrick and Craig Pringle have authored lengthy, well reasoned posts as to why that predicition just won’t come true. I happen to agree with both gentlemen and I’ll add my piddly $.02.
From Craig’s :
The world is full of a vastly diverse range of users with a vastly diverse needs. No one platform can meet all of those needs. The world is big enough for laptops, tablets, UMPCs, PMPs, PDAs and more.
From JK’s :
Not going to happen. The UMPC/ Origami will never displace the high-end PDA for two simple reasons. The people who find their PDA indispensable can put it in their pocket and carry it everywhere.
I don’t believe the UMPC will replace the Tablet PC because it’s a totally different market.
And don’t forget that they are gurus of this business. And i passed them 10 days ago! Ha-ha!
